Today I’m excited because yesterday I just got out of a call with one of my clients from Australia, a Physiotherapist who wants to improve his brand and sales. I got to create a proposal today for him, some proposals for design for a client in United States, prepare the material I’m going to teach to my first student in Norway and prepare some slides for a conference that I’m going to give tomorrow in my country about freedom businesses and networking for the Internet Day.
In the last year I’ve lost 40 pounds, I’ve been in national TV, given speeches about how to use internet to build your businesses, and inspire many to start working towards their goals. I worked with people in USA, Australia, UK, Denmark, Sweden, Colombia, Mexico, Costa Rica and many others. And 2 years ago I was a depressed guy in a cubicle who didn’t know how to do more. Looking back to that time and see where I am today it’s still surreal, and it all started with a crazy Australian guy who’s name is Timothy Marc who decided to start a little group of people which he called “The Secret Society Mastermind”.
As I have said before, I worked my ass off to accomplish all the things that been expected of me, and did it all in just 5 years. I worked in every big IT company (I was a system engineer) that was supposed to give me the “dream job” and when I was in the top, I found that it wasn’t that great at all! And left me bad taste thinking: “Is this it?”
The last job I had was not really a day job of doom, but quite the contrary; I barely did anything, got amazing internet connection (that was unblocked), and was getting paid decently for it. But at that point I already knew that my dreams of traveling, meeting amazing people, and doing amazing things were not going to happen in a job.
I started thinking that there was something wrong with me, all of the other guys seemed pretty happy about being there, and in my country, most of the people will put pressure on you to “settle”, to have a “safe life”, they see things like comfort, settling in and security as the ultimate purpose of life, work, marry and have children, and “pray to god” for protection so no gang member will torture you and kill you (like if that is going to help).
I was born and raised in El Salvador, a third world country, a country that is ravaged by gangs, we are one of the top 10 worst countries to live in the world, and so you have a better idea, when USA was bombarding Iraq’s cities, we still got more killings than them.
“If you keep it small, you’ll keep it under control. If you don’t make any noise, the bogeyman won’t find you.” – Sophie Scholl
That’s the mentality of my country. So I started to give in and with that came some depression. But after 3 months, when everything was getting comfortable, I see a little email from a list that I had signed a year ago. It was the crazy Australian Tim.
Enter Timothy Marc
Tim was an instructor in Real Social Dynamics, a company focused on pickup and to teach on how to be social, something I had invested the last 2 years of my life to learn because I was pretty much a chode at it. He was one of my favorite instructors and honestly I admired him a lot (and still do). He was talking on a way on how to use all this for business, to create a way to get a huge income while having pretty much all the time in the world, he called his blog “Do Something Rad” and now he was explaining a lot more and referred us to the 4 hour work week (book) and this article from Tim Ferriss.
I started looking for examples of people who have done this and found Cody McKibben and Rasmus Lindgren at that time. And then he said about creating the first group of Secret Society Mastermind, I was excited.
I went to write time about this and he gave me more information, it was the first group, but at the time I had a problem with my credit card which expired the same day Tim opened the course, I did all I could but it was too late, SSM was full.
I was frustrated, but then I knew that it could be done, and was fucking ANGRY at myself for listening to others about settling in and having a secure life, FUCK THAT! I WANTED FREEDOM! FUN! AND FUCKING ADVENTURE!
Luckily for me at that time Cody made a contest to win a scholarship in Digital Nomad Academy, and I won with this basic and horrible video
Thankfully, the contest was about votes, and I hustled my ass off to get all those votes!
Then, next year, something happened, SSM 2 was coming and I was like OH FUCK! I GOTTA GET IN! So I went to Tim again and got some more information but this time something changed, the price was higher, it was $2K now, not $1k, and I didn’t had the money. So you have a better idea I was earning $600 at that time, and that is in my country a damn good salary, big bosses are earning from $1.2K to $2K here.
And I didn’t had the money, I talked to Tim and he advised me to NOT GO INTO DEBT, which (sorry Tim) I ignored totally and went into more debt to get inside SSM, it was the only way I could have done it at that time. I was fucking scared, I’ve never been so scared in my whole fucking life, the last 3 days to the launch day I couldn’t sleep, I was a fucking zombie in my office, and this was by far the scariest thing I have ever done in my life.
I was going to give $2K to a guy in the internet, who I have never seen in my life to teach me a magic formula on how to do fucking freedom businesses, the whole thing looked like a scam, especially for all my family and friends. But I decided to do it anyway. BEST DECISION EVER!
It was like pulling a wire to your brain (like the Matrix) and having a ton of knowledge go into your head at once! Tim took us really slow, with 1 or 2 actions to do per week, but still, those actions were pretty radical. And having 200+ guys doing the same thing as you do, from all over the world was a little bit overwhelming but at the same time it was fucking awesome! For every little thing you did, you had advice from all over the world, more than a 100+ tests done in a week with results and all the other examples from the previous SSM members was fucking awesome. It was truly helpful.
I created my first business, Epic Web Studio, with no portfolio or experience in business at all. You can see the first design below:
At that point, I was only thinking of quitting my job, and travel a little bit, I never thought that I was going to be the door to so many opportunities in my life. The things I learned there helped me to get another scholarship with a Self-Made Millionaire called Marie Forleo, and this was the video I did to get in:
You have to admit that this is a huge improvement in comparison to the one I did for DNA. I learned about quality by looking at the videos that Kable did in his business, from Tim, from Matt, from Bobbe. From all the amazing people I met inside SSM.
It is crazy to see that people you have never met in your life have more confidence in you than your own family and friends, the SSM guys have supported me through thick and thin, in the good and in the horrible. They have been always there to guide me when I have doubts, to teach me new things, to give the most detailed examples, they do not try to hide things because they truly want me to be successful, and want to see you triumph. And after a lot of hustle, I was finally able to quit my job in August 2013!
I have not only learned a lot about business inside SSM, but also how to be a guy of massive value, how to help others to achieve what they want, how to be a guy of abundance, and helped me greatly to become a much better man in my life. And this helped me to get other opportunities like being a coach in the Startup Weekend Event and get into national TV.
Yes, I have still not been able to travel like I would love to, but I’m getting so much closer to that, I have time to focus on my health as well, and to be a better friend and help other people since I’m not tied to schedules. But even if I’m not able to travel big yet, I’m living a MUCH better life than most of my friends who are still tied to a day job of doom, the people who thought I was being dumb, are still in their jobs hating their bosses. And me, I’m waking up at 11am today, having a healthy breakfast and being able to have some naps in the day and go and visit my friends whenever I want to. I live in the smallest country in the world (literally) and if I want to go to the beach which is only 30 or 40 minutes away.
And if I, who was horribly in debt, in one of the top 10 worst countries to live in the world, ravaged by gangs, have made all this happen, if you live in Europe, USA, Australia, or South America, I don’t have any doubts you will be able to do it as well, after all, there is this one guy in India who is in a very similar position than me and he’s kicking ass and doing the SSM trips, I haven’t because of the bad decisions that I took when I was young, but out of 4 debts, I have already paid 2, and 2 left, which I’m pretty sure they will be gone by July. Considering that it would have taken me 15+ years to pay all that shit in my day job of doom ($20K+ in debt with a $600/month salary), being able to pay that in 2 and a half years is fucking awesome.
Consider there are guys like Scott doing $20K+ a month, or Kable who is closing $30K to $50K for every project (web + video), and there are many guys killing it in SSM, if I write all their names then the list is going to be fucking huge.
And yes, I had tons of help from the guys in DNA, B-School, Fizzle, Ramit Sethi, and the Society International by Neil Strauss. But I would have NEVER done any of that if it wasn’t for Tim and SSM. And now SSM4 is coming. If you’re thinking about joining in, then my advice for you is to do it, do not have doubts, just do it man, it will be the best decision you will take in your whole life.
The prices of the Secret Society Mastermind have skyrocketed since I wrote this post, they also open only once a year.
If you don’t want to wait one year to start building your business or if the entry price for SSM is out of your reach, here are some options for you.

Other Members in SSM
During the last year I started a podcast interviewing many amazing people, many of them are SSM members, if you want to know more about their experience I’ll leave the interviews below so you can watch them. Each one last between 30-45 min so take it slowly.
